Fruit Tree Stewardship Program

Is there a crabapple right outside your office window? Maybe an ornamental pear in the parking lot at work? These trees have the potential to become food producers. Like any crop there needs to be someone there to collect it, a steward. Is that you? Some might call this gorilla grafting, I call it an upgrade to the landscape.

The steward would need to be sure that the target branches don’t get pruned off and that the fruit is collected and removed. Many municipalities and private landscape companies that care for these places don’t want to deal with the messy fruit.

John would retain rights to collect cuttings for future grafting as well as the ability to collect small samples of the fruit (a peck) for confirmation of selection, growth characteristics, taste variance, etc

To become a fruit steward please contact John!
